01 / Why EMRYS

There is no sovereign, end-to-end OT security operator in the UK or Europe.

Industrial operators sit on data that is fragmented and siloed across dozens of systems, with very little of it connected. There is no sovereign, end-to-end OT security platform in the UK or Europe. The closest comparison is Dragos in the US, but EMRYS is being built specifically around the needs of European critical infrastructure.

What the product does
EMRYS ingests fragmented, siloed data from an operator's systems, correlates the signals across it, resolves identity, and produces a graph that shows exactly where third party supply chain risk sits.
Why it's hard
OT environments were never built to share data. Every operator has a different mix of legacy systems, with data spread across them and rarely designed to be correlated. The technical challenge is making all of that work together, then turning it into intelligence that security teams can actually use.
Who's buying
Critical national infrastructure operators, starting with energy and expanding into broader civil infrastructure, then Europe and defence.
Traction
£1m pre-seed from Gallos. One partner already signed, more in progress. Spin-out is targeted for October or November 2026, with first revenue expected by the end of Q2 2027. A seed round is planned for early 2027.
02 / The role

Founding Engineer.

You’ll work side by side with Johnny, the founder, owning the technical direction and helping shape the product from day one.

What you'll own

  • -Take the MVP into production. There’s already a working foundation. You’ll shape the architecture from here, make it production-ready, and own how it evolves as EMRYS scales.
  • -Shape how engineering works here and build the team around you. The plan is to have four engineers in place by the end of 2026.
  • -You’ll spend time working directly with the design partner. This isn’t a role where you build in isolation and hand something over later. You’ll be close to the customer while the product is being built.
  • -Own the data problem: ingesting fragmented, siloed datasets, correlating across them, resolving identity, and producing a graph that means something.
  • -Own the AI/ML side of the product, from extracting intelligence from messy data to building systems that improve as EMRYS is deployed across customers.

You'll thrive here if

  • -You’re genuinely strong across both data engineering and data science/AI, and comfortable moving between the two.
  • -You have recent, hands-on production experience with Python and AWS, including language models inside real systems, not just as a coding assistant.
  • -You've got large-scale data platform architecture behind you, with the fundamentals to reason from first principles.
  • -You have a forward-deployed mindset. You can walk into a large, slow-moving organisation, understand it fast, and build something that fits rather than something generic.
  • -You're credible in front of investors and customers, because you'll be in those rooms alongside him.
03 / Interview process

The interview process.

01 Founder intro callJohn Scarlett
A short first conversation with John. What EMRYS is building, what the role involves, and whether it's worth taking further from both sides.
02 Founder interviewJohn Scarlett
A deeper conversation on the problem, the market, and where this goes next. John is not technical, so this isn't a technical interview.
03 Technical assessmentIndependent technical assessor
A technical assessment to understand your depth of knowledge and experience across data engineering, machine learning and system architecture.
04 Final alignmentJohn plus one or two others
An introduction to the wider team and some of our advisers to get a rounded view of your fit for the role.
04 / Meet the team

The people you'd build this with.

You’ll be working alongside a small founding team with deep experience across government, national security, product and cybersecurity.
